The info book

The book everyone gets, with the explanation of the game and the recipe of every item.

ChaptersChapter 2 of 19

Every new arrival gets the book CivCraft Info. It is your reference inside the game: the short explanation, the recipe of every CivCraft item and the list of what your town can build.

  • Right-click with the book in your hand to open it.
  • If you lost it, /res book gives a new one.
  • You cannot drop the book on the ground.

The menu

The book opens the CivCraft Information window with three buttons.

  • CivCraft Info opens the tutorial, the same one you saw on your first login.
  • Crafting Recipes shows every CivCraft item with its recipe.
  • Build Structure closes the window and shows /build list: what your town can build now.

CivCraft Info: the tutorial

The tutorial window has six tiles of explanation and two quests.

  • What is CivCraft? CivCraft is about building civilizations in a large, persistent world full of people. You start as a nomad, gather resources and allies until you can build a camp, and then found a civilization. Research technology, build structures and conquer the world.
  • Explore. Move away from spawn and find a place to settle. On the way you meet trade goods and other towns, and they help decide where you will live. Each biome yields different resources.
  • Resources and Materials. CivCraft has many items of its own. You craft them on a workbench by combining normal Minecraft items into items of a higher tier. Iron, gold, diamond and emerald are exchanged for coins at a Bank. With coins you buy materials at the Market.
  • Towns. A town protects an area from outsiders. Inside a town the owners build freely, without griefers. A town costs materials to found and coins to maintain. Towns build structures with a function and only exist inside a civilization.
  • Civilizations. A civilization is a group of towns. All towns share the technology the civ researches. Many items and structures are only available through technology. Founding your own civ is a lot of work: you have to bring people together to survive and grow.
  • War! Normally all structures of a civ are protected. Civs can declare war on each other and then damage each other's structures and capture towns. Each weekend there are two hours of WarTime, in which you defend your civ and attack your enemies.
  • More Info? Points at the book, the boards at spawn and the help of each command.
  • QUEST: Build a Camp. Your first quest: build a camp. A camp keeps your items safe and gives Tokens of Leadership. The item below it shows the recipe of the Camp.
  • QUEST: Found a Civ. Your second quest: feed bread to your camp's longhouse until you have enough tokens and craft the flag. The item below it shows the recipe of the Founding Civilization Flag.
  • Need to know a recipe? Reminds you that every recipe is in the book.

Crafting Recipes: every recipe

This is the part you will use most.

  1. Click Crafting Recipes. You see one book per category, with the number of items.
  2. Click a category. You see all items of that category.
  3. Click an item. You see the recipe on a workbench grid.

The categories

  • Special: Camp, Chieftains Headdress, Badge and Proof of Leadership, Royal Crown, Founding Civilization Flag, War Camp and War Cannon.
  • Tier 1 to Tier 4 Materials: the intermediate materials, from simple to expensive.
  • Gear Tier 1 to 4: weapons and armour.
  • Catalyst Tier 1 to 4: the items that improve gear.
  • Tools: tools with a recipe of their own.

Reading the recipe window

  • The grid in the middle shows which items go where.
  • Top left is the required technology. An emerald block means your civ has that tech, a redstone block means you are still missing it.
  • Shaped or unshaped is shown left of the grid. Shaped means the pattern matters; unshaped means each ingredient goes in a slot of its own, anywhere.
  • On the right is the item you get.
  • Back in the bottom right takes you back to the category.

Click an ingredient in the grid that is a CivCraft item itself, and you see its recipe. That way you can walk a recipe down to normal Minecraft items.

Build Structure

This button shows what your town can build right now, with the price. You have to be in a town for it to be useful. Everything about building is in Structures.
